3D CT Scanning

A full mouth reconstruction, often referred to as a smile makeover, is a comprehensive treatment aimed at rejuvenating a patient’s smile. Over time, various factors such as dental habits, tooth loss, or damage can detract from the aesthetics of one’s smile. Each makeover is tailored to address the unique needs of the individual, with some requiring only a few procedures for a complete smile restoration while others may need several treatments to achieve their desired results.

Why would 3D CT scanning be needed?

A 3D CT scan is typically required before oral surgery to ensure precise planning and identify any potential obstacles. This advanced imaging technique allows us to visualize nerve pathways and other vital structures, crucial for avoiding complications during the procedure. Despite its detailed imaging capabilities, the scan utilizes minimal radiation, making it safe for the majority of our patients.

Who is a candidate for 3D CT scanning?

For the majority of our patients requiring diagnostic imaging, undergoing a 3D CT scan is highly recommended and beneficial. This specialized scan allows us to tailor treatments to your unique requirements and detect dental and facial conditions that might otherwise remain undetected. Prior to the procedure, we meticulously review your medical history to ensure your suitability for this advanced x-ray technology. At Sapphire Dental Home, both adult and pediatric patients can undergo these scans safely and effectively.

What happens during 3D CT scanning?

At Sapphire Dental Home, undergoing a CT scan is a quick and straightforward process, typically lasting only a few minutes. To ensure your safety, one of our trained staff members will carefully position a lead apron over your body to shield you from radiation during the procedure. You’ll then stand or sit in the center of a circular machine, either biting on a small bite guard or resting your chin as necessary. The machine will rotate around your head, capturing detailed images of your oral structures. These images are immediately available for review, allowing us to promptly commence treatment planning tailored to your individual needs.
